Boring and Dull Day returns to park on Aug. 9
As has been customary now for nearly a decade, the community of Boring will gather in Boring Station Trailhead Park, 28008 Keller Road, at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, to celebrate Boring and Dull Day — the commemoration of Boring, Oregon, and Dull, Scotland, becoming "A Pair for the Ages."
All are welcome to come out and enjoy ice cream served by local nonprofit volunteers, listen to live music and learn more about the organizations and people that have invested in the community's past, present and future.
Music will be provided by the Boring & Dull Day Ensemble, a pipes and drum group that includes Rob McKendrick on drum with Jeff Brewer and Rob Barrick playing the bagpipes, as well as local rock 'n' roll band Ron Ruedi and the Hurricanes.
The following businesses, groups and political candidates have already signed up to host informational booths at the event:
Festivities will kick off at 4:45 p.m. with the "shortest parade in Oregon" through the park, then volunteers will begin scooping and serving ice cream at 5 p.m. The opening ceremony to commemorate the pairing behind the event will occur at 6 p.m. with performances by the Boring & Dull Day Ensemble. Drawings for the raffle will take place at 7 p.m.
The raffle features 40 different prizes with a total value of over $5,800. Tickets are $10 each, and only 999 tickets were printed, making the odds of winning a prize 1 in 25.
Raffle tickets are still on sale at various locations in Boring and online.
Proceeds from this event and the raffle benefit the Boring, Oregon Foundation, which is the community chest for Boring and the fund for a community center for the greater Boring area.
