Every month the Sandy Public Library, 38980 Proctor Blvd., provides a "take and make" project for kids to enjoy and learn from. In August, that project will offer a lesson on the power of plants.

Through a partnership with the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, library staff will provide the Power of Plants: Super Seeds! — a Take & Make that will "inspire learning and hands-on fun" said Sandy librarians.

"From the air we breathe to the foods we eat to the clothes we wear, plants provide essential ingredients for our survival," according to a flyer from the museum. "Join us for a science adventure and celebrate the power of plants through experiments, crafts, and other hands-on fun."

The kit provided free of charge by the library starting Aug. 15, will include numerous activities to teach kids about everything plants: plant nutrition, life cycles, anatomy, etc.

The library staff will post a video on theirwebsite for those participating in the activity on Aug. 15. The video is produced by the Museum of Natural and Cultural History and teaches viewers about the science of plants. The video also includes some experiments that kids can try at home. "I wanted to provide fun Take and Makes over the summer that would encourage kids to continue to learn over Summer break, but in a fun, engaging way," said librarian Monica Smith. "I am really happy that the Oregon Museum Of Natural and Cultural History has provided these activities to share with our community."
