Sandy man killed in two-vehicle collision on Highway 211
Sandy resident Levi Vargas, 31, has been pronounced dead as result of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 211 near milepost 4 on Thursday night. Sept. 1. At around 9:05 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a collision between Vargas, who was driving a Victory motorcycle, and a Kia Spectra operated by Sandy driver Charles Maples, 31.
Vargas was reportedly traveling southbound on Highway 211, attempted to pass in a no passing zone and collided head-on into a Maples' southbound vehicle.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the crash.
Vargas was transported to Oregon Health & Science University via Life Flight but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Traffic was temporarily impacted on Highway 211 while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.
Members of the Sandy Police Department, Sandy Fire Department, Life Flight and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the crash alongside Oregon State Police.
