Summer Sounds hops into blues series
Next up for Sandy Summer Sounds is the Wednesday night Main Stage Series.
From 5:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, two Pacific Northwest bands will take the Dale Nicholls Main Stage in Meinig Park, 17670 Meinig Ave., to provide foot-stompingly good blues and kick off the highly anticipated evening entertainment with the Sandy Hops and Blues Festival.
Busy Bee Catering from Welches and Sandy's own Red Shed Public House will have food for purchase, and the Beer Den will provide a beer, wine and cider garden, with brews from local Bunsenbrewer on tap to wash down your favorite fare.
Event coordinator Katie Murphy expects a good turnout this year with one of her "personal favorites" headlining the show.
"I love Hillstomp," she said. "They're one of my favorite bands in the area. They're outrageously energetic and it's really visceral blues. (In the past) everybody was kind of blown away by them too."
Hillstomp is a self-proclaimed "junk box blues duo" out of Portland. Guitarist Henry Christian and buckets player John Johnson boast their abilities to produce "memorable" live performances from the use of recycled materials-turned-instruments, banging beats out of buckets, cans and assorted lids.
Secondary only in lineup, Too Slim and the Taildraggers, a band from Washington, plans to provide a more "eclectic" style of blues to the evening's festivities.
Murphy noted the band "branches out from the blues" more than others, and has a more "electric" sound with Tim "Too Slim" Langford's unique slide guitar style.
The entire event is family friendly. Children are welcome to utilize the playground equipment while parents listen to music, and parents are allowed to enjoy their refreshments (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) anywhere within the confines of the event.
"(There should be) good weather, good food and lots of people showing up," Murphy noted. "It should be a good time."
