Chamber mixes up mingling event for business owners
When the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce first started its monthly Morning Perk event, the idea was that it would be a forum for business owners to mingle with city staff and other chamber members. Now, with the help of Your Networking Universe owner Mark Hiatt, the chamber hopes it could be much more.
At 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, the chamber will host the first in a series of more prescribed Perks. The early-morning meeting will now double as a networking workshop.
"I want to give more value to it," Hiatt explained. "Most people I think believe networking is just walking into a room and handing out your business card. The key to networking is that networking does not happen until two people give each other something."
Hiatt, who has worked in networking for 20 years, is looking forward to working with his fellow business owners in Sandy.
"I get really excited about networking, helping people understand that ultimately networking is the best expression of business, because it's all about giving," he told The Post. "It's about a community coming together, which is what the chamber tries to teach."
The event will take place at the AntFarm Cafe and Bakery, 39140 Proctor Blvd.
