Estacada woman opens secondhand store in Sandy
Growing up, Rene South Worth loved yard sales. She came by the interest honestly, and ironically second-hand from her mother who she said "was crazy about yard sales."
As a young military wife in her 20s, South Worth actually hosted what was the first yard sale in her small town in Germany years ago. Now she's launched a business she says is "just a giant indoor yard sale" to Sandy, at 39400 Pioneer Blvd., Suite No. 8.
Rene's Lucky Finds opened in March, but the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will host an official ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4.
"I love to yard sale," South Worth noted. "I also love people and to chat and learn people's stories."
South Worth said she came to Sandy because it's close to her home in Estacada and she hoped having her shop just off of Highway 26 would get customers on their way up the mountain.
"I like Sandy," she added. "I want to build up Sandy."
South Worth prides herself in already amassing a rather eclectic assortment of second-hand wares. She doesn't take or sell clothing, but she has "unique items you won't find elsewhere that are reasonably priced."
The store is located in the old Legends of Lore space and includes what South Worth calls her "man cave" section, dedicated to sporting gear and tools and such. She also has a variety of home goods and antique pieces, like old trunks and dishware.
"I love seeing the joy," South Worth said of her experience running the shop so far. "People get a kick out of the store."
The open house and ribbon cutting event on May 4 will feature a drawing, and include sandwiches, cookies and beverages free of charge to guests. The actual ribbon cutting will take place at noon, though the open house will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
South Worth accepts all used items with the exception of clothing. Items don't need to be sorted before drop off, and consignments are not offered.
