Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce event looks to broaden appeal to more demographics

PMG FILE PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Sandy Music Fair and Feast includes live music, drinks, food and fun activities for all ages. July is fast approaching, and with it comes the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce's Sandy Music, Fair and Feast.

This year, Director Khrys Jones hopes to offer a little bit of something for everyone with the annual fundraiser from July 11 to 13 at Centennial Plaza, 39295 Pioneer Blvd.

Though the event won't include Sunday, as it has before, Jones plans to offer a Senior Day from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 12, sponsored by Health Net. The senior evening will include live music from Barbara Cecil of Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts, and those 55 and older will be welcome to enter free of charge.

"Sunday also just hasn't been a busy day," Jones explained of the decision to shorten the event. "Our expenses will be up this year also, so not having Sunday will help save some money."

On the agenda for Saturday, July 13, family day, are the kids' bake-off and the chili cook-off, along with multiple chances to purchase food from Joe Daddy's BBQ and Kidd Island Teriyaki, and live music. Alcoholic drinks will be available from Mike's Hard Lemonade, Buddha Kat winery and more.

People can also pick up $2-off vouchers for admission starting July 1 at the Sandy Les Schwab Tire Center, 37895 Highway 26. There's a $6 cover charge for entrance after 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is free Thursday evening.

"I love seeing all the people from the community come out — whether they're chamber members, family or friends," Jones said of the event. "It's like a big reunion."
