End Zone Club invites all to Samoan-style cookout complete with entertainment

COURTESY PHOTO - Proceeds from the luau on Aug. 17 will help cover costs for the Sandy High School football team. Like most educational programs, the Sandy High School football team often feels the effects of underfunding. So, in an effort to make up the difference, the team's End Zone Club is inviting all to don grass skirts and enjoy a luau fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 14480 S.E. Richey Road, Boring.

Tickets are $45 for adults, $25 for children ages 7-12 and $400 for a group of 10. Admission can be paid for in advance or at the door. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free.

Last year the event earned the club around $10,000 to help fund purchases of equipment, uniforms and cover costs of meals after games and other team-building events.

"This year we hope to double that," said event coordinator Anieca Gross.

The luau will feature Samoan-style fare, including traditional pork cooked in the ground, mac salad, fruit, huli huli chicken and coleslaw, all prepared by chef Al Corpuz and his team.

For dessert, the football players will auction off homemade goodies. There will also be a silent auction, a dance performance and adult beverages will be available for purchase.

Gross is also excited to welcome a new dance group to the event — Paradise of Samoa.

"It's a lot of fun," Gross noted. "It's a fun atmosphere that whole evening."
