Hoodland Senior Center folks cook breakfast to raise money for programming, community aid

PMG PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Volunteers served huckleberry pancakes, cantaloupe, sausages and beverages at their annual fundraiser on Aug. 24-25. For about the same cost you'd spend on a latte, the Hoodland Senior Center volunteers served breakfast this weekend. Several community members came out Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25, to enjoy huckleberry pancakes, sausage and cantaloupe, all for a good cause.

Proceeds from the breakfast will help fund programming, such as Meals on Wheels and fitness classes, and operations at the center, 65000 Highway 26, Welches.

Though the regionally and seasonally enhanced pancakes are a perk, center Director Ella Vogel has told The Post it's "the people who make the event enjoyable."

"We had a very nice turn out for our pancake breakfast," Vogel noted. "We received a lot of donations from people who would not accept change after buying their tickets. We also had four raffles that raised quite a bit of money."

A definite amount of how much was raised has yet to be determined.
