Sandy retirement facility hosts trick-or-treating opportunity for local children

PMG PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Residents like Marvis Gary are excited to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters at Avamere on Oct. 31. For kids without grandparents and grandparents missing their grandchildren, Avamere at Sandy has a special Halloween event just for them.

From 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, the retirement facility, 17727 S.E. Langensand Road, will host an evening of trick-or-treating. Residents of the facility will participate in handing out candy and interacting with the local children in search of a sweet treat.

"The residents are really looking forward to it," Avamere at Sandy Community Relations Coordinator Susan Leininger said. "It's always so great to bring the youth in. I think it's important for the community to come see our seniors. They're an important part of our society."

There are no restrictions on costumes or ages, but visitors are encouraged to be mindful as they navigate the trick-or-treat trail through the facility.

"This is a great event for grandmas and grandpas who maybe don't get to see their grandchildren often," Leininger noted. "It feeds their souls. The residents love it."
