Volunteers host seasonal event on Sunday, Dec. 1, at Boring Station Trailhead Park

PMG FILE PHOTO - A fire truck will deliver Santa to the park at 5:15 p.m. to light the tree. Boring Station Trailhead Park is the center of several events throughout the year. On Sunday, Dec. 1, the park, at 28008 Keller Road, Boring, will be host to the annual community tree lighting ceremony. All are welcome to come kick off the holiday season with caroling at 4:45 p.m., then Santa himself will arrive on a fire truck to light the tree.

Following the tree lighting, refreshments, crafts and visits with Santa will be offered in the Boring-Damascus Grange, 27861 Grange St.

"This has been a wonderful community event for years," said Karla Farr, volunteer and former member of the Friends of Boring Station Trailhead Park Committee.

Those interested in donating to the fire department's cause of helping families in need can bring nonperishable food and/or presents for the Christmas Basket Operation.

All festivities are free of charge. People are encouraged to bring flashlights.

"It is a very hometown event," Farr said. "The kids watch Santa arrive in the antique fire truck. They watch him light the tree. Then they get to go inside and meet him. It's really nice for local people who are maybe unable to go downtown or to the mall. It is also less stressful than all of that."
