Event to offer night of pasta, play for all ages to benefit recreational program scholarship fund

COURTESY PHOTO - Dinner will be $5 per adult. Looking for a night out? From 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, the Sandy Community Center will serve up a spaghetti dinner, with a side of bingo, in an effort to raise funds for recreational programs.

Olive Garden Restaurant in Gresham will provide the meal. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children and available at the door. Bingo cards allow for four games each and are $1.

Prizes will be given for game winners.

"It's having fun while giving back," said events coordinator Carol Cohen. "This kind of event is for anybody. Bingo is for all ages. Anyone can do this."

Proceeds from the event will go to scholarships for those who can't afford recreational programs offered by the center.

On average, a program or trip with the center costs around $55 per person, and offerings vary from theater workshops to day trips to sports activities and more.

"It's hard when you have more than one kid, especially, to afford some of these opportunities," said Cohen. "We thought this fundraiser would be a good idea and it's family friendly."

Dinner runs from 5:30-7 p.m. with bingo from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

"I'm looking forward to having the community come out and participate in a family event," Cohen added. "It's an event where the money goes toward something we provide for the community. It's a win-win."
