The Mt. Hood Community College softball team was left on shaky ground in the Northwest playoff chase after dropping both games of a doubleheader to rival Clackamas Community College on Saturday.

Tied 4-4, the seventh inning would decide Game 1.

Clackamas rose to the challenge with four straight hits — singles from Presley Turin, Kaelynn Miller and Katie Rose to load the bases with no outs — and the winning double up the middle from Katie Zook. Teammates Haylee Fischer and Ashley Dugan also put the ball in play to stretch the lead to 8-4.

Mt. Hood CC went down in order in its half of the inning.

• Clackamas put up runs in each of the last four innings to win the second game 9-3.

The Saints (16-18) sit 15th in the latest Northwest rankings with the top 16 teams qualifying for the championship tournament in Spokane. Mt. Hood CC travels to last-place Grays Harbor on Tuesday before finishing the regular season at South Region-leading SW Oregon on Friday.
