The Mt. Hood Community College baseball team went into its final series of the regular season on the outside of the Northwest playoff chase, but would crawl over the cut line at the expense of their rivals with a four-game sweep over Clackamas Community College.

The clincher came Monday afternoon when the Saints held on for a 2-1 win that saw coach Bryan Donohue embrace reliever Aaron Clift after he froze the tying run at third base twice down the stretch.

Mt. Hood finished the regular season with a 15-23 record, climbing past Clark and Chemeketa into third place in the South Region. The Saints head to Yakima for the Super Regionals, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday against Edmonds — the fourth-place team out of the North.
