The Mt. Hood Community College men's basketball team saw center Vlad Katin draw a charge to cause a key late turnover that set up teammate Conor Geiger for free throws at the other end in the Saints' 80-78 overtime win over rival Clackamas on Wednesday night.

Clackamas gave the ball to its leading scorer Isaiah Gentry, who attacked the hoop only to have his attempt come off the rim. The Cougars got a second-chance tip, but it also missed the mark, and Mt. Hood came up with the rebound at the buzzer.

The win leaves the Saints (7-11) in a three-team jumble for fifth place in the South — two games out of the playoffs heading into the second cycle of the league schedule. Mt. Hood travels to Umpqua for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.

"We needed this win tonight to be able to make any kind of a run at all," Saints' coach John Hawley said.

The Saints forced overtime when Kyler Haynes hit an underhand scoop shot with 0:23 left in regulation.

• Clackamas won the women's game 77-61 earlier in the evening.
