WRESTLING -  The Pioneers finish third in their pool after picking up a win over Bend

PAMPLIN MEDIA: LON AUSTIN - Sandys Leo Rios looks to turn Centennials Kobe Hein for back points during a consolation bout at last weekends Oregon Wrestling Classic.

Sandy's wrestling team split its pool play matches at last weekend's Oregon Wrestling Classic, picking up wins over Bend and North Medford, while losing to state powerhouse Roseburg and Oregon City.

Sandy wrapped up its round-robin action with a 53-24 win over Bend, securing the dual victory with a run of eight straight wins in the middleweights. Dylan Miller got the win streak started by flattening his 126-pound opponent in only 16 seconds. Teammates Colby Giltner, Isaiah Shideler, Isiaah Draper-Rios and Leo Rios also scored pins, while Andrew Van Houte won a 15-0 technical fall at 160 pounds.

The Pioneers capped their scoring spurt with Kael Schilperoort (170) winning a 9-3 decision and Jack Rademacher (182) coming away with a 5-3 decision.

Finishing third in its five-team pool landed Sandy in the consolation bracket, which opened with a 78-6 loss to Centennial, as the Eagles avenged a league loss early in the season. None of the 12 contested bouts went the distance with Isaiah Shideler picking up Sandy's only win with a first-period pin at 138 pounds.

Sandy followed that with a 46-36 loss to McNary before earning a repeat win over Bend to finish the tournament.

The Pioneers look to stay unbeaten in league duals when they host Clackamas at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
