Shideler wins weight class at Ranger Classic
ESTACADA — Sandy High's Isaiah Shideler flattened all three of his opponents on his way to winning the 138-pound bracket at Saturday's Ranger Classic.
No one could push Shideler beyond the first period, as he pinned his way through the tournament with barely four minutes of mat time. He took down La Grande's Alex Kehr in 46 seconds in the finale.
Sandy also had five wrestlers reach third-place bouts with Kayden Keller (120) and Ford McKinnis (285) winning their matches.
Sandy finished 112.5 points, coming in seventh out of 11 teams.
The Pioneers opened the league season Thursday with a 44-35 home loss to David Douglas.
A three-bout win streak in the lightweights pushed Sandy to an early 23-12 lead. Kayden Keller (126) and Caleb Hawkes (132) each won with pins, while Shideler won a 17-2 technical fall early in the third period.
Mikey Platz (170) and McKinnis (285) each won by pins later in the night. Ten of the night's 13 contested bouts ended in a pin.
