CROSS COUNTRY

Franklin's boys, the 2019 Class 6A champ, took the top eight spots in a four-team PIL boys race at Pier Park on Wednesday; Charlie North (16:18.94) topped teammate Charlie Robertson (16:20.03) by less than two seconds in the 5,000-meter boys race. Franklin's girls took the top three spots in the 5,000-yard meter girls race, led by winner Autumn Ost (19:08.24).

VOLLEYBALL

St. Mary's Academy has been competitive, but went 0-3 with losses to Lakeridge, Canby and Oregon City (in five games, including 15-7 in finale). ...

Besides Central Catholic, Mt. Hood Conference teams to win, so far, include Barlow three times, Gresham and Sandy twice and Reynolds and David Douglas once each. ...

Entering Friday's play, Lincoln had won four matches and Wells High three times in PIL play.

SOCCER

Oregon Episcopal's boys beat Catlin Gabel 4-3 last weekend — the Aardvarks had lost the past two Class 3A/2A/1A finales to Catlin Gabel. ... Wells battled Franklin to a 1-1 tie in boys play. ... Cleveland started 4-0 in boys play. ... A pair of 7s in girls play: Jesuit beat Aloha and St. Mary's Academy topped Centennial, each by 7-0 scores on Monday.
