Barlow's Braydon Lee takes bronze at MHC cross country districts
Barlow's top boys cross country runner was surrounded by a sea of competitors Thursday, Oct. 27, as he vied for a ticket to state alongside the best runners in the region.
Like he has been all season, it was a battle for senior Braydon Lee against the dominant runners from Central Catholic, led by speedster Wesley Shipsey. But despite the occasional jostles, and teamwork from the Rams, Lee stayed with the pack to claim bronze.
"I'm tired," Lee said with a laugh as he congratulated his fellow racers. "I came in today wanting a (personal record) and to stick with the Central group — I did both of those."
"I use them as a training group during the run and stick on them," he added.
Lee finished third at the Mt. Hood Conference Cross Country Championships at Blue Lake Regional Park, 21224 N.E. Blue Lake Road. He, along with the other top-14 finishers for the boys and girls races, earned a berth to the OSAA 6A State Championships, which take place Saturday, Nov. 5, at Lane Community College in Eugene.
Last year Lee finished in the 60s at state. He wants to set another PR en route to a better placement.
"Running for the Bruins has been about fun, togetherness," he said. "We have built up this camaraderie running together these four years."
Central Catholic won both the boys and girls team competitions with 19 points and 22 points respectively. Rounding out the boys were Nelson in second (79 points) and Clackamas third (80). For the girls it was Clackamas second (58 points) and Sandy third (76).
