Open Door wins school's first-ever state game; Barlow, Sandy, Gresham fall in round one of tourney.

PMG FILE PHOTO - Volleyball results from the local 6A, 3A and 1A schools. Across the region, the top volleyball teams competed in the opening rounds of the state tournament — from 6A to 1A. While Open Door Christian Academy was celebrating its first-ever playoff win, the conference juggernaut and the top 1A team in the state was also all smiles.

Undefeated Damascus Christian, which is powered by a group of talented seniors, has had state title aspirations all season. And the first two games of the postseason didn't deter those dreams — a pair of 3-0 sweeps to punch a ticket into the final bracket.

The local 6A teams that earned berths to state — Sandy, Barlow and Gresham — all fought valiantly in difficult road wins but came up just short. The Pioneers and Bruins were both able to take a set, while the Gophers couldn't keep up with top-seeded Jesuit.

And No. 11 Corbett had to travel far in the 3A tournament, losing a distant road game to Banks.
