Distance learning will continue as scheduled for Tigard-Tualatin schools, with snow and ice in the forecast.

With a winter storm expected to arrive in the Portland area Thursday afternoon, Feb. 11, the Tigard-Tualatin School District announced that in-person activities will be canceled from 1 p.m. Thursday through the end of the weekend.

The cancellation applies to limited in-person instruction, daycare and after-school activities, including athletics.

Most Tigard-Tualatin students remain in comprehensive distance learning, with only a small number invited back into classrooms for limited in-person instruction at this point.

Those virtual lessons will continue as planned for the rest of the school week, the school district said Thursday morning.

"Distance learning will continue and online classes will be held as scheduled today and tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 12," the district said in a brief statement.

Tigard-Tualatin School District buildings will not open Friday after closing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. They will remain closed through the weekend.

School district staff can be reached by email and phone Thursday and Friday, the district added.

District meal service will run just one meal delivery route Thursday and will be canceled Friday due to snow and ice in the forecast. Meal pickup times at 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday are canceled.
