Tualatin Meals on Wheels People honors volunteers
Tualatin Meals on Wheels People celebrated its Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 12 at Tualatin's Juanita Pohl Center.
The annual luncheon is a way to show appreciation for the 180 people who volunteered 6,100 hours in 2017 for the Tualatin Meals on Wheels People.
The event also honored Kari Bassett who was named Volunteer of the Year.
Bassett has volunteered for Tualatin Meals on Wheels People for the last seven years, donating 3,500 volunteer hours. In addition, she volunteers at the Tualatin City Library and at Meridian Park Hospital.
"Her motivation in helping others is greater than time itself," said Julio Lopez, Meals on Wheels People manager at the Juanita Pohl Center.
The Meals on Wheels People program has been at the Juanita Pohl Center since it opened in 1982, its mission being to enrich the lives of seniors while maintaining their independence by providing nutritious food, human interaction and social support.
Last month, Tualatin Meals on Wheels People delivered 966 meals to area residents along with serving 761 meals in the center's dining area.
