Man arrested in Tigard for Tualatin hit and run injury accident
A Hillsboro man who stole a car in Tualatin and later was involved in an injury hit and run accident was arrested Monday by Tigard police.
The incident began at Woodridge Apartments, 11999 SW Tualatin Road, after it was reported a motorist had been struck by a vehicle, which was later discovered to have been driven by George Arthur Rose III, according to a news release from the Tualatin Police Department.
After striking the vehicle, Rose is alleged to have continued driving through a landscape planter, struck a tree, and then came to rest against another vehicle. Meanwhile, the victim driver was transported to OHSU to be treated for unknown injuries.
As the officers were responding to the accident, they were informed that a vehicle had been stolen from a neighboring apartment complex, the same one involved in the accident.
Rose fled the scene on foot and ran to a nearby business where he attempted to break into two other vehicles with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful, Tualatin police reported.
As officers, including a tracking K-9, arrived on scene they learned that Rose had run to Highway 99W and attempted to flag down passing motorists but he was unsuccessful in his attempts.
Police report he then got on a TriMet bus passing through the area but the driver, realizing something suspicious in the suspect's appearance and behavior, phoned dispatch to notify police.
Tigard Police intercepted the bus at Main and Burham streets in Tigard where Rose was then taken into custody without incident and transported to the Washington County Jail. He was charged with one count of unlawful use of a vehicle, one count of fail to perform duties of a driver with injury, one count of fail to perform duties of a driver property, one count of second degree criminal mischief and one count of attempted second degree criminal mischief.
