Tigard chamber's Mollahan receives state award
Debi Mollahan, chief executive officer of the Tigard Chamber of Commerce, received the prestigious William R Hass Chamber Executive of the Year Award during ceremonies at the chamber's annual Tigard Shining Stars Community Awards Gala held Friday at Embassy Suites.
Mollahan was presented with the award by Megan De Salvo, chairwoman of the Tigard Chamber of Commerce Board. (De Salvo and her husband Nicholas also received the Tigard Chamber Business of the Year Award, honored for their business, Edge One Media.)
De Salvo said the award came from the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce and would "live on for (Mollahan) as her legacy."
Mollahan, who has headed the chamber since 2009, recalled the tough times of shepherding the chamber along during a recession and said the award is dedicated to all the chambers' members.
"This award was completely unexpected and I didn't know I was nominated," she said during her acceptance speech, adding she was all the more honored because the judges were former recipients of the statewide award.
"The chamber is not a building … the chamber is an organization, its members, its community," she said. "To me this award is bigger than any one of us but together we can make tremendous change. And we have made tremendous changes as an organization."
