Matt Collins selected as new SHS associate principal
The Sherwood School District has selected Matt Collins as its newest associate principal at Sherwood High School effective July 1.
Collins will be filling the position opened by the departure of Carey Wilhelm, who will be joining Oregon City High School as its next principal for the 2019-20 school year.
"Matt's breadth of experience, coupled with his true belief in the transformative nature of education, will serve the Sherwood community well. We are so excited to have him join our team," said Sherwood High Principal Melissa Baran.
After graduating from Westfield State University in May 2000, Collins taught advanced mathematics until moving to Oregon in 2009. After relocating to Bend, he joined the Bend-La Pine School District at Mountain View High School where he has served as a part of the mathematics department and the track and field coaching staff, as well as a member of an ICCL (Instructional Coach, Curriculum Leader) Team. He recently completed a Masters of Education from the University of Oregon in educational leadership and policy.
"Matt's passion for education and his dedication to serving the needs of students and staff stood out during the interview process," said Superintendent Heather Cordie. "He will be a strong addition to the high school administrative team, and we look forward to seeing the great work that will continue to happen at Sherwood High School."
Collins said he was honored and humbled at being selected for the position.
"Working in such a great district is a responsibility that I do not take lightly," he said. "My family and I are excited beyond what words can capture to become Bowmen, and I can't wait to begin working with the staff, students and families of Sherwood."
