'E.T.' star Henry Thomas arrested for DUII near Bridgeport
A movie star best known for his role as the child protagonist in "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants near Bridgeport Village in Tualatin, authorities say.
Police say Henry Thomas Jr., 48, didn't phone home — or call a cab. Instead he was arrested after officers responded to reports of a vehicle "stopped in the lane of travel" at Lower Boones Ferry Road near Southwest Bridgeport Road around 8:38 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.
A spokesman for the Tualatin Police Department declined to say whether Thomas was found passed out behind the wheel, saying that national media reports had been "deducing what happened."
Sgt. Nate Cooper said Thomas did bring up his career on the silver screen, specifically his role in the 1982 classic science fiction flick about a homesick alien.
"He did," Cooper said. "He told officers that at different times during their time with him."
Thomas was released from the Washington County Jail around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, local records report.
