85 Degrees Celsius Bakery opens at Washington Square
A high-end bakery featuring affordable coffee and food fare opened its doors at Washington Square Mall Friday.
This will be the first Oregon location of the California-based company.
85 Degrees Celsius Bakery began after Cheng-Hsueh Wu, its founder, was impressed after visiting a 5-star hotel in 2003. While he loved the premium coffee and pastries he didn't like the high prices, according to the company's website. In 2008, the first restaurant opened in California and there are 1,000 locations worldwide today.
The bakery's name comes from a belief that coffee holds its best flavor if kept at a temperature of 85 degrees Celsius.
