Tigard man arrested for firing gun in neighborhood
A 40-year-old Tigard man was arrested early today, charged with firing up to 20 shots in a residential neighborhood in the 6800 block of Southwest Pine Street.
When police arrived just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, they found the man, Michael Cornish, inside a neighbor's garage. The officers were told that Cornish came to the neighbor's home in the middle of the night and made statements that lead them to believe he was the individual involved in the shootings, according to a news release from the Tigard Police Department.
Tigard police told Cornish to put down his gun and he was taken into custody. At Cornish's home, police found his front door damaged from apparent gunfire as well as used shell casings and bullet holes inside the residence.
Officers believe Cornish may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. No one was injured. Cornish was taken to the Washington County Jail, charged with the unlawful use of a weapon.
