Volunteers needed to decorate bags for homeless
Positive Charge! PDX is hosting a community-wide event in Tualatin on Sunday, June 13, to decorate and assemble lunch bags to be delivered by Blanchet House to people living on the streets in downtown Portland.
The event will be held in two time slots, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the south side of the main shelter in Tualatin Community Park, 8515 S.W. Tualatin Road.
The family-friendly, hands-on event is open to everyone but children need to pre-register along with an adult at PositiveChargePDX.
Positive Charge! PDX will supply the lunch bags and have materials on hand for decorating the bags with messages of caring, kindness, and encouragement. Participants can bring their own art supplies, but no paint or glitter is allowed.
Once finished decorating bags, participants will be filling bags with nonperishable snack items, as the first step in building a nutritious sack lunch for a homeless person. Registrants can donate store-purchased, wrapped snack items such as fruit cups, granola bars, chips and cookies.
In addition, Positive Charge! PDX would appreciate receiving gift cards to such stores as Costco, Albertsons, Safeway, or Fred Meyer to help defray the cost of purchasing sandwich supplies.
Gift cards can be mailed to Positive Charge! PDX, 6312 S.W. Capitol Highway, No. 127, Portland, 97239. They can also be brought to the June 13 event. A small group of volunteers from Positive Charge! PDX will be making at least 135 fresh sandwiches to add to the lunch bags and delivering them on Saturday, July 3, to Blanchet House. Also, anyone can make sack lunches for Blanchet House by visiting blanchethouse.org/sack-lunches. Blanchet House is a nonprofit social services organization located in downtown Portland.
