Sherwood slated to hire Stayton city manager
Sherwood's top choice to become city manager is Keith Campbell, the city disclosed in a public meeting notice Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Campbell, who currently works as city manager of Stayton — a rural community east of Salem — was identified as Sherwood's preferred candidate ahead of an expected vote by the Sherwood City Council to formally hire him. That vote is set to take place Thursday evening, Aug. 26, at a special meeting of the City Council.
Campbell was selected as the council's top pick out of 34 applicants who applied nationwide.
Campbell, who holds a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's of science degree in business administration, has more than seven years of experience as a city manager. In addition, he has more than 15 years of local government experience in both Oregon and Washington.
Campbell would replace former city manager Joe Gall, who left to become chief utility relations officer with Clean Water Services in May. Since then, Kristen Switzer, the city's community services director, has served as city manager pro tem.
Strategic Government Resources, a Texas-based company that aids in executive recruitment, was the firm in charge of the search.
In an earlier interview, City Attorney Josh Soper said the semifinal stage of the candidate process included written questionnaires and video interviews with final in-person interviews conducted with the top two candidates.
Those two finalists then came in for face-to-face interviews with the Sherwood City Council and talked with some city department directors a well.
In addition, a community panel — which included a group consisting of a Sherwood Chamber of Commerce representative, a city manager from another city, and a representative from the League of Oregon Cities — interviewed the finalists, Soper said.
City staff also held a "meet and greet" breakfast with the finalists and gave them both a tour of the city on Aug. 6, Soper said.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story misspelled Sherwood's city attorney's surname. His name is Josh Soper. The story has been corrected.
