The Times wins 12 ONPA awards
Pamplin Media Group newspapers throughout Oregon took home 102 awards from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and National Newspaper Association contests this month.
Among those awards: 12 for The Times, part of a combined haul of 23 awards for Pamplin Media's newspapers in Washington County alone.
The Times received first-place honors for best spot news coverage and best special section or issue for its coverage of last September's devastating wildfires. Reporting and photography were also contributed by our sister papers, including the News-Times of Forest Grove and Hillsboro, the Newberg Graphic, the Portland Tribune, the Herald-Pioneer of Canby and Molalla, and the Sandy Post.
The Times was also awarded in first place for best advertising campaign using print and online, highlighting the work of its print and digital sales team and creative designers in promoting a raffle for Honey Baked Ham.
Reporter Ray Pitz was honored with a second-place award for best writing, as well as for best government coverage.
Photographer Jaime Valdez received third-place honors for best photo essay.
Other awards for The Times included second place for best spot news coverage for our reporting on the first COVID-19 cases detected in Washington County, second place for best front page design, and third place for best editorials.
Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association awards are judged by The Times' peers in print media. This year's contests were judged by members of the Arizona Newspapers Association.
