Beginning Oct. 1 and continuing through Oct. 31, Tigard is hosting a pumpkin scavenger hunt at Cook Park.

"This is our second annual pumpkin scavenger hunt," said Marissa Grass, community engagement coordinator for Tigard's Public Works Department. "We had over 400 people participate last year and we are looking forward to another great turnout this fall."

Grass said the pumpkin scavenger hunt was developed in an effort to give residents a chance to get outside and experience local parks during the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hunt involves following a set of five clues to find five different pumpkin signs, which are hidden throughout the park. Participants are then asked to take selfies of themselves with each sign. (Scavenger-hunters are asked not to remove the signs.)

After all the signs have been accounted for, send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for a chance to win a prize bag.

The first six submissions will receive a free Kids Night Out registration spot, a program that began on Sept. 24 and continues from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17, all at Tigard's Fanno Creek House.COURTESY PHOTO: TIGARD PARKS & REC - Clues will help children find their way to all five pumpkin signs hidden at Cook Park.

"At these programs, participants will engage in a variety of group-oriented games such as scavenger hunts, charades, soccer, kickball, bingo, etc.," said Grass. "There will also be seasonal crafts, a delicious snack and a short film."

A $10 registration fee is required for that program.

Meanwhile, here are the five clues for the scavenger hunt:

- "Where is Pumpkin 1 hiding? I am green but not grass. The pumpkin will be found in between the diamond mats."

- "Where is Pumpkin 2 hiding? I'm green and blue, I'm new and fun to play on too."

- "Where is Pumpkin 3 hiding? I am something you sit on but can't take with you. The pumpkin will be found where butterflies sit with you."

- "Where is Pumpkin 4 hiding? Leaves upon the water are seen as you float, the pumpkin can be found where you leave the port."

- "Where is Pumpkin 5 hiding? What has a net but can't fish? I have a basket to make a swish."
