Sherwood's annual Give n' Gobble walk and race is celebrating a milestone this year -- marking the 15th anniversary of the event that benefits the local Helping Hands Food Bank.
For the second year in a row, the event will be held virtually with the official starting date set Nov. 20. Participant will have until Dec. 1 to complete the 5K walk or 5K or 10K runs.
"The annual Sherwood Give n' Gobble celebrates connecting with family, friends and neighbors while burning a few calories," according to a news release. "This simple goal has raised over $400,000 and 80,0000 lbs. of food donations for local families in need over the last 15 years."
In the past, the event has attracted more than 2,500 participants.
This year, Sherwood Tax & Accounting is hosting the event, partnering with Carpe Viam Marketing, the race's founding organization.
Last year's virtual event proved a success in part because participants were allowed to choose their own course.
Helping Hands provides food boxes for those in need. In addition, its Backpacks for Kids program fills backpacks with food for students who might need them over the weekend.
