Adam Mitchell has officially dropped the 'interim' part of his title, the Sherwood School District announced.

The Sherwood School District recently announced Adam Mitchell has been selected for the permanent job, effective immediately.

The district highlighted Mitchell's strong leadership skills, as well as his focus on supporting the needs of students and staff as reasons for his selection.

"Adam accepted the interim role knowing what a challenging time he would be leading the SHS community through. From that first conversation, he shared his desire and commitment to supporting the students, staff, and families of SHS," Superintendent Heather Cordie stated in a news release.

The superintendent said Mitchell's strength and skills aligned with a survey the district sent out regarding the qualities and characteristics desired in a new principal.

A Sherwood resident, Mitchell came to the Sherwood School District in 2009, serving as a math teacher, a dean of students and an associate principal at both Laurel Ridge Middle School and Sherwood High School.

"I am beyond humbled and honored to be able to continue to serve Sherwood High School, and the Sherwood School District in this role," Mitchell wrote in the release. "The students, staff, and families of Sherwood High School have made the school the amazing place that it is, and our goal moving forward is to continue, and improve on, that success."COURTESY PHOTO: SHERWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT - MITCHELL

Mitchell replaces Melissa Baran, who left Sherwood High School last summer to join the Tigard-Tualatin School District as associate director of teaching and learning.

Other promotions

The Sherwood School District also has promoted Mili Wilkinson, associate principal at Sherwood Middle School, to principal at Middleton Elementary School.

She will replace Jon Wollmuth, who is leaving the district on July 1.

Wilkinson served as an instructional coach at Edy Ridge Elementary School for three years before being selected as dean of students at Laurel Ridge Middle School in 2018. She served most recently at both Laurel Ridge and Sherwood middle schools.

Wilkinson started her education career as a fifth-grade teacher at Middleton Elementary School in 2006. Cordie called her a strong instructional leader who has a passion for working at the elementary level.COURTESY PHOTO: SHERWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT - WILKINSON

"When we learned that the principal position would be open at Middleton Elementary, we considered engaging in a hiring process to select the right candidate and very quickly came to the conclusion that the candidate best suited for that school community is already serving as a leader on our administrative team," said Cordie.

Wilkinson said she was honored to be named principal at the school where she began 16 years previously.

"I am eager to build and strengthen relationships with students, staff and families and look forward to contributing to the amazing work that is already being done," she said.

Another district promotion named Emily Anderson as associate principal at Sherwood Middle School. She has served as dean of students at Sherwood Middle School for the last four years. Prior to that she taught business and math at Scappoose High School for seven years.

Also hired by the district was Amy Green, who is the new associate director of student services. She most recently worked in the Oregon City School District as a building administrator.

Both Anderson and Green begin their duties July 1.
