Investigators say Harrison McBride killed William Mayberry, 53, after he had been kicked out of the resource center.

A man has been arrested for second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 53-year-old man in Tigard, the police department said Monday, June 27.

The Tigard Police Department first stated Sunday, June 26, that it was investigating a "suspicious" death and had interviewed a person of interest. It announced Monday that case is now considered a homicide.

Harrison Douglas-Myles McBride, 26, was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail. He is accused of killing William Edward Mayberry, a 53-year-old man whose body was discovered in a backyard area at the Just Compassion Resource Center just before 1 p.m. Sunday.

Just Compassion is a nonprofit that serves the homeless community. Its resource center at 12280 S.W. Hall Blvd. in Tigard serves as a day shelter for people without housing.

Both Mayberry and McBride "have ties to the property," police said Monday, but their relationship is unclear. Pamplin Media Group has reached out to Just Compassion for more information.

McBride had recently been told he was no longer welcome at the resource center, according to police. However, police are not providing any information on why he allegedly killed Mayberry.

McBride was lodged at the Washington County Jail. He was arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court on Monday morning for second-degree murder.
