Jennifer May, a State Farm insurance agent in Tualatin, recently decided that she wanted to ease some of the expense of back-to-school supplies for students returning to Bridgeport Elementary School.

"We wanted a local school to donate to, since our office is in Tualatin," she said. "Last year, we looked up elementary schools that had low-income housing students (and) found Bridgeport Elementary."

So, last month, May launched a donation drive to gather kits that included glue, ruler, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, notepad, eraser, scissors, folder, and notebook paper, purchased through her office and through the generosity of neighbors.

Last week, May delivered those items to the school.

"We delivered 20 backpacks and 20 school supply kits," she said. "I called ahead to let them know we'd be coming. They were very surprised and grateful and said it was all needed and would be used."COURTESY PHOTO: JENNIFER MAY - Heres a look at some of the supplies Jennifer May collected for Bridgeport Elementary School.

One thing they could still use, she was told, are water bottles, an assignment May is already on.

"We're going to round up some of those for donation as well," she said, adding that she's happy she could help out. "It feels great to be able to help the community even if in a small way."
