The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Oregon is a major fundraiser and public awareness event.

Tigard was visited Thursday, Sept. 15, by runners bearing a torch for Special Olympics Oregon.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run passed through town, making stops at Bridgeport Village and Cook Park. It's "the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser" for Special Olympics Oregon, according to the organization's website.

Special Olympics Oregon gives children and adults with intellectual disabilities the chance to be athletes, train and compete on the public stage.

The organization is headquartered in Beaverton.
