'...Today's DAR is preserving history, promoting patriotism and educational activities.'

The local Champoeg Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) has been very busy in our community since resuming meetings in September 2019.

We have assembled and distributed 105 Constitution Kits to area schools to commemorate Constitution Week Sept. 17-23.

In honor of the NSDAR's founding on Oct. 11, 1890, each chapter is asked to get involved in the community and do a service project. This year, we worked with June Reynolds of the Sherwood Historical Society to compile scrapbooks of photos to be given to area senior homes to help promote conversation, stimulate memory and possible picture identification.

In November, we welcomed master modelmaker David Ross Sr. and his dear friend, World War II B-17 gunner Don Anderson, to our meeting. Mr. Ross was awarded the NSDAR Community Service Award by our regent, Susie Jordan, for his work with "Models of Honor."

Champoeg won from the Oregon State Daughters of the American Revolution a Christmas tree skirt that decorated the donated Oregon trees at the U.S. Capitol in December 2018. The tree skirt was made by an Oregon DAR member. The tree skirt was presented to the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center, where it can be enjoyed for many years to come for its beauty and rich history.

Also, Champoeg members gathered and gave unwrapped toys to the "Toy N Joy" program at the Newberg Fire Station.

Coming Feb. 13 at 11:15 a.m. in the large classroom at the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center, Champoeg will host Rachel Thomas of the Newberg Area Historical Society and George Fox University library archivist. Ms. Thomas will be speaking on "A Women's Work is Never Done: The Role of Female Missionaries in Oregon." Champoeg invites all to join us.

If you are a woman 18 years or older and have an ancestor who was a Revolutionary War patriot and would be interested in becoming part of this service organization, you are invited to contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
