The Tigard Tri-Squares square dance club is offering new classes to teach residents how to do-si-do and promenade.

The square dance club, which performs at the Tigard Grange, is offering a streamlined set of courses to teach the basics of the century-old dance style.

Lessons begin Sunday, Oct. 6. Lessons will be offered every Sunday for 10 weeks.

It’s a speedy course compared to the group’s usual 18- to 20-week set of lessons normally offered.

“They will be able to participate in regular dances sooner because we have callers who are willing to limit the number of calls to 51 basic moves at some of our dances,” said Adolf Epich, the group’s vice president.

The hope is that a less-intense set of lessons will bring in additional members.

“Simply stated,” Epich said. “We want mores students to join our club and become regular dancers.”

The first two lessons are free — the rest of the lessons are $6 per lesson.

The lessons will be held at the Tigard Grange, 13770 S.W. Pacific Highway, at 3:30 p.m.
