Big Truck Day, one of the most unique events coordinated by Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, will be back for its 16th year on Saturday at the Conestoga Recreation and Aquatic Center, 9985 S.W. 125th Ave., in Beaverton.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can get an up-close look at dozens of utility vehicles in a variety of shapes and sizes, including hauling trucks, recycling trucks, fire trucks and other specialty vehicles.

Suggested donation for the event is $2 for adults, $1 for children and $10 for families.

“This event is an annual favorite of our patrons,” said Big Truck Day organizer Cathi Ellis. “Kids love crawling into trucks to experience a look at life behind the wheel. We see lots of smiles and a lot of great photos.”

Big Truck Day visitors can give blood in the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, bring donations for Goodwill, and visit the Beaverton City Library’s book mobile for Story Hour. Radio Disney’s truck will be at the event, providing music and giveaways.

Specialty vehicles include a Titan triple trailer, a Ness & Campbell crane and a Portland Community College aviator school helicopter, which will land at the event.

T-shirts and ear plugs will be available for sale, as will food from local food carts, including Whole Foods. Kids can enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, a bounce house, a sand pit, free games and a free open swim at the conclusion of the event from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

THPRD’s own big rigs — the Nature Mobile and Rec Mobile — will be on site to entertain kids with interactive activities. Vehicles from local police, fire and transit agencies will also be on hand.

Big Truck Day is sponsored by Whole Foods and Les Schwab Tires. For more information, call Conestoga at 503-629-6313.
