Fido's, billed as the world's first dog tap house, is set to open in Tigard next month. Patrons will be able to drink craft beer while playing with shelter dogs, with the goal of rehoming these dogs to loving owners.
"I got the idea after visiting Purrington's Cat Café," said owner Scott Porter in a statement. "Cats and coffee are cool, but shelter dogs in a tap room! That would be incredible."
In addition to serving beer and helping to house shelter dogs, Fido's will donate a portion of profits to local rescue charities to help them tackle the national shelter dog challenge. According to the SPCA, about 670,000 dogs are euthanized annually due to overpopulation — over 12,000 per week.
Fido's is located at 7700 S.E. Dartmouth St., No. 110, Tigard. Its grand opening celebration is planned for Monday, Feb. 12.
Garden Home library to host maker's lab
Families are invited to visit the Garden Home Community Library Annex from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, for the library's new monthly open maker's lab. There will be snap circuits, paper circuits, art supplies, and a button maker available for participants to play with and use.
If you are interested in having something printed on the 3D printer please contact the library at 503-245-9932 before the event. The library is creating a queue for print jobs so that they can be picked up at the open maker lab each month.
