That undertaking includes the recent installation of a new illuminated sign for Broadway Rose Theatre Co.

"Our former Broadway Rose sign hung on the outside of our old scene shop, which faces (Grant Avenue). We demolished our old scene shop and built a much larger scene shop and costume shop," Alan Anderson, Broadway Rose marketing manager, said about the new sign. "We wanted a new sign with a strong statement."

The new sign wraps around the corner of the building.

Meanwhile, finishing touches are being places on a new rehearsal hall, an enlarged scene shop, new costume shop and a new administration office. Anderson said the building was "bustling with crews and every day something new is added." (The actual theater performance area and seating, lobby and current offices will remain intact.)

Both Dan and Sharon Murphy, co-founders of the theater, and managing director and producing artistic director, respectively, say they are pleased with how construction is progressing. say they are pleased with how construction is progressing.

"It's one thing to see the design on paper, but now that the walls, floors and ceilings are up, it's thrilling to walk into the new spaces and more easily envision them filled with creative artists. I can't wait to start using the space," Sharon Murphy wrote in an email.

Broadway Rose has occupied its current site since it moved into the former C.F. Tigard Elementary School's cafetorium in 2008.

The project is wrapping up."We were set to begin construction in the spring of 2020, but delayed the project because of the uncertainty of COVID," said Dan Murphy. "We broke ground last May and it's taken longer than originally thought, but it's going to be worth the wait. We're so close to being finished."

The project is set to be completed June 20 and hopes are to raise the final $78,000 needed to reach that goal. The theater has operated in the black for the last 25 years, Dan Murphy noted last year.
