The Wolves sweep Hillsboro in Pacific Conference play

TUALATIN — The Tualatin High School volleyball team picked up its first win of the season last Thursday.

And that win seemed to come from a total team effort.

The Timberwolves evened their Pacific Conference record at 1-1, at that point, by scoring a 25-22, 25-17, 25-11 victory over Hillsboro in a conference match held at Tualatin High School.

“The girls all played well and our pace quickened as the match went along,” Tualatin coach Monica Anderson said. “This young team is starting to gel nicely.”

A lot of Tualatin players seemed to play roles in the win.

Junior middle hitter Katie Savage had nine kills in the victory and senior middle hitter Jasmine Miller added seven kills.

New setter Morgan McMasters, a sophomore, had a strong connection with the hitters. Meanwhile, sophomore Sara Fanger, senior Beth Fanger, McMasters and sophomore Haley Howarth all had six digs in the back row.

On Tuesday, Tualatin fell in three sets to Newberg in a league match held at Newberg High School.

With the win, Newberg improved to 3-0 in league play, putting the Tigers alone in first place in the Pacific Conference standings.

The Timberwolves will be back in action tonight (Thursday) when they host Tigard in a league match starting at 6:45 p.m. at Tualatin High School. On Saturday, Tualatin will be hosting at tournament starting at 8 a.m. The Wolves return to league play on Tuesday, when they travel to McMinnville for a 6:45 p.m. contest.
