The Sherwood girls place second and the boys finish in third

NEWBERG — The Sherwood High School cross country squads continued their successful seasons with strong performances at the Champoeg Invitational, held Saturday at Champoeg State Park.

The Sherwood boys finished in third place in the team standings at the 15-school event with a score of 75 points.

Senior Ryan Pierce led the way for the Bowmen. He finished in third place in the 5,000-meter race in a time of 16 minutes, 46.2 seconds.

Sherwood junior Joshua Moats wasn’t far behind, placing sixth with a mark of 17:03.6.

Also for the Sherwood boys, junior Connor McLaughlin was 21st at 17:52.3, senior Olsen Cottle was 22nd at 17:53.9, junior Matthew Brooks was 23rd at 17:56.4, sophomore Ryan Chidlaw was 38th at 18:22.6 and sophomore Andrew Peters was 45th at 18:36.4.

Wilson took first place in the boys team standings with a score of 38.

The Sherwood girls ran to second place in the team standings at the invitational with a score of 70, putting the Lady Bowmen just four points behind first-place Wilson.

Junior Madison Budge paced the Sherwood girls, as she ran to sixth place in a time of 20:25.4. Senior Samantha Stewart also place in the top 10, running to 10th place with a mark of 20:29.4.

Also for the Lady Bowmen, junior Bridgett Palmer was 14th at 20:43.8, junior Sam Mckibbon was 19th at 20:52.5, senior Avery Rosenbalm was 23rd at 21:24.0, junior Morgan Lite was 25th at 21:26.4 and junior Molly Fettig was 36th at 21:53.6.
