PORTLAND — The Tigard Elite fifth-grade boys basketball team just keeps on winning championships.

The Tigard squad won its fifth-straight tourney title, taking the gold at the David Douglas MLK Classic, held Jan. 18-19 at David Douglas High.

Tigard, taking the lead on a second-half basket by Lincoln Woodhouse, and never looking back, scored a 41-34 win over D-UP Hoops in the Jan. 19 tourney championship ED KOHLMAN - ANOTHER TITLE -- The Tigard fifth-grade elite boys basketball team recently won its fifth straight tournament championship.

Drew Carter scored a game-high 22 points in the title game to help Tigard get the win. The team also got great guard play from Jesse Riodil and Griffin Biggs, combined with tough defense by Brandon Kohlman, Brett Moss, Mikey Brannon and Hayden Boyd, helping to limit D-Up Hoops to just 10 second-half points.

Carter made shot at a 7-for-12 clip from the field and he also made eight of 10 free throws on his way to scoring 22 points. Woodhouse added seven points for Tigard while Spencer Nelson, Spencer Kuffel and Aden Murphy each added four points.

The Tigard squad won the tourney despite not having the services of Edward Beglaryan, one of the squad’s toughest players, due to illness.

The team is coached by Avery Carter and Doug Kuffel.
