Tigard, Tualatin and Sherwood all hold high seeds

by: DAN BROOD - TOP SEED -- Sherwood senior Anders Joergensen is the No. 1 seed for NWOC singles play.Berths to the Class 6A and Class 5A state tennis tournaments will be on the line this week.

And the stars from Tigard, Tualatin and Sherwood high schools look poised to make a run for many of those berths.

They’ll be vying for those spots when they compete in district tournament play, which will be held today (Thursday) through Saturday.

The top four boys and girls singles players, and top four boys and girls doubles teams, from each district event will advance to play at the state tournaments.

The Tigard and Tualatin teams will be competing at the Class 6A Pacific Conference tournament, which will be held at Pacific University in Forest Grove and at Linfield College in McMinnville.

Pacific Conference girls tourney play will be held at Pacific University today and Friday, with action starting at 2 p.m. today and at 9 a.m. on Friday. Boys play will be held at Linfield college today and Friday. On Saturday, all of the play will be at Linfield, with semifinal matches starting at 9 a.m.

Tigard senior Courtney Roshak is the No. 2 seed for girls singles play at district. In girls doubles play, the Tualatin team of Debbie Kim and Riley Steele holds the No. 1 seed.

In boys singles play, Tualatin sophomore Ryan Malinowski is the No. 2 seed. The Wolves also have the No. 4 seed in Mitchell King. In boys doubles play, Tualatin’s Tyler Snyder and Dahn Nguyen are seeded No. 2. The Tigard team of Tanner Ahl and Mitch Davis holds the No. 4 seed.

Sherwood will be competing in the Class 5A Northwest Oregon Conference tournament, which will be held at Portland Tennis Center.

The girls will be playing their first three rounds today, starting at 9 a.m. The first three rounds of boys competition will be held on Friday, starting at 9 a.m. Action begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. with semifinal matches.

In boys singles play, Sherwood senior Anders Joergensen, a foreign exchange student from Denmark, is the No. 1 seed.

In boys doubles, Sherwood’s Clay Voydat and Carson Donnelley are the No. 2 seed.

In girls singles action, Lady Bowmen sophomore Allison Schwarm is the No. 2 seed. Sherwood seniors Amy Marks and Cambria Rooney have the No. 3 seed for girls doubles play.
