The Bowmen boys fall on the road to the Lakers in Friday's Three Rivers League contest

SHERWOOD — The Sherwood High School girls basketball team got off to a fast start, and the Lady Bowmen never looked back.

Sherwood, jumping out to a 12-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, sprinted to a 56-27 win over Lake Oswego in a Three Rivers League game played Friday at Sherwood High School.

With the victory, Sherwood improved to 1-4 in TRL games (6-7 overall), putting the Lady Bowmen in a tie for seventh place in the league standings. Lake Oswego moved to 1-4 in TRL play (4-9 overall) putting the Lakers in that tie for seventh place in the standings.

Senior Lauren Scarvie led the way for the Lady Bowmen in the victory with 16 points. Junior Alex Verkamp added 11 points and sophomore Julia Leitzinger scored eight.

Katy Gilbert led Lake Oswego with 17 points.

The Sherwood boys, on Friday, fell 65-48 to Lake Oswego in a league game played at Lake Oswego High School.

Sherwood moved to 2-2 in TRL play (9-5 overall), putting the Bowmen in fifth place in the league standings. Lake Oswego moved to 3-1 in TRL games (9-4 overall), putting the Lakers in a tie for second place in the league standings.

Seniors Billy Hale and Owen Grubbe led Sherwood, each scoring 11 points in Friday's game. Senior Jace Sucher added six points. Josh Angle paced Lake Oswego with 23 points.

Both Sherwood teams were slated to play on Wednesday. The Lady Bowmen were home to face St. Mary's Academy and the Bowmen played at Newberg. Results of those games weren't available when the Times went to press.

On Friday, the Sherwood teams will host West Linn in a league doubleheader. The girls game will be played at 5:45 p.m., with the boys game to follow at 7:15 p.m. On Tuesday, the Sherwood girls will host Tualatin at 7 p.m.
