The Sherwood girls get a split at last week's Three Rivers League track and field event

SHERWOOD — Another challenge, another challenge met by the Sherwood High School boys track and field team.

And this was quite a challenge.

In a battle of league unbeatens, the Bowmen boys came away with an 87-58 win over Tualatin in a Three Rivers League dual meet held April 19 at Sherwood High School.

With the victory, Sherwood improved to 5-0 in TRL meets, while Tualatin moved to 4-1.

The Bowmen used their depth and balance to get the impressive win, as they scored key points in many of the events. Sherwood also got contributions from a number as competitors as, although the Bowmen had plenty of first-place finishes, no one for the team had more than one.

On the track, Sherwood sophomore Caleb Hagan sprinted to victory in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.38 seconds. Junior Henry Giles finished first in the 1,500 in 4:04.03. Junior Joshua Milligan had a winning time of 15.78 in the 110 high hurdles and junior Michael Klapp was victorious in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.08.

In the field events, freshman Noah Culbertson had a winning throw of 136 feet, 3 inches in the shot put. Senior Joel Turner cleared 5-8 to win the high jump. Senior Payton Churilla got over the bar at 13-0 to take first in the pole vault and senior Billy Hale had a winning mark of 43-0.25 in the triple jump.

The Sherwood girls came away with a split at last week's meet. The Lady Bowmen beat St. Mary's Academy 76-69, but they fell 75.33-69.67 against Tualatin. With the split, the Sherwood girls moved to 4-2 in league dual meets.

Freshman Nora Hagan was a three-time winner for the Sherwood girls at the meet. Hagan sprinted to victory in the 100 in 12.73, she won the 200 at 26.53 and she had a winning time of 1:00.11 in the 400.

Sherwood senior Shelby Moran won the discus with a throw of 167-5 and she had a winning toss of 40-8 in the shot put.

The Sherwood teams also competed at the Wilsonville Invitational on Saturday.

Moran picked up another pair of victories at the event. She won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 46-9.75 and she had a winning throw of 165-3 in the discus.

Nora Hagan won the 200 in 26.05 and freshman Joley Sproul triumphed in the 300 low hurdles in 47.12.

Sherwood senior Clair Johnson finished second in the shot put with a mark of 40-6.5.

For the Sherwood boys, Giles ran to victory in the 3,000 in 8:52.88 and he finished second in the 1,500 at 4:03.97. Hale was second in the triple jump with a mark of 42-10.5.

The Sherwood teams will finish their Three Rivers League dual meet schedule on May 2, when they face Canby and West Linn in a meet to be held at West Linn High School.
