Locals set for Saturday's Les Schwab Bowl
HILLSBORO — One more time.
One more chance.
One more — one final — chapter to their high school football careers.
And, for one more time, a pair of Bowmen and a pair of Timberwolves get to line up across from each other.
That's what's ahead this week for Nic Garrison and Zack Jenkins, both 2018 Sherwood High School graduates, and Ryan Mitton and Lucas Noland, both 2018 Tualatin grads.
The four local stars will wrap up their high school football careers when they play in the 71st-annual Les Schwab Bowl, a high school football all-star game, which will start at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.
The game will feature many of the top graduating Class 5A and Class 6A players from around the state.
Garrison and Jenkins will be playing for the North squad in Saturday's game. Mitton and Noland will be playing for the South team.
Garrison (5-foot-11, 295 pounds) will be playing on the offensive line for the North team. This past fall, as a Sherwood senior, Garrison was a first-team All-Three Rivers League selection at offensive tackle. Garrison is set to play college football at Minot State University, located in Minot, N.D.
Jenkins (5-11, 195) will play at running back for the North team. He was a second-team All-Three Rivers League pick at running back.
Mitton (5-11, 275) will play on the offensive line for the South team. He was a first-team All-Three Rivers pick on the defensive line, and a second-team all-league selection at guard on offense for the Wolves this past fall.
Noland (6-0, 190) will play at defensive back for the South team. He was a first-team All-Three Rivers League pick at safety this past fall. Noland will play college football at the University of Oregon as a preferred walk-on.
Other Three Rivers League players slated to play in the game include West Linn's Taran Floyd and Chris Comings and Lake Oswego's Sean Elliott and Sam Haney, who will all play for the North team.
Clackamas' Joe Bushman is the head coach for the North team, with assistants Hut Calhoun from Clackamas, Randy Heath from Grant, Damien Merrick from Sunset, Steve Pyne from Central Catholic and West Warren from Franklin.
South Medford's Bill Singler is the head coach of the South team, with assistants Brian Crum from Mt. View, David Faateete from Hermiston, Josh Line from Sheldon, Chris Parnell from South Medford and A.J. Robinson from Churchill.
Ticket prices for the Les Schwab Bowl are: $20 for reserved premiere, $15 for reserved adult; $12 for reserved student; $10 for general admission adult and $8 for general admission student/senior.
Saturday's game will wrap up a week full of activities for the North and South teams.
Event proceeds from the Les Schwab Bowl benefit the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association general scholarship fund and all of Oregon's Class 5A and 6A schools.
