Sherwood teams pick up another league sweep
Another meet, and the Sherwood High School cross country teams are still perfect in Pacific Conference competition.
The Bowmen squads remained perfect in conference meets by sweeping Forest Grove and Newberg in a Pacific Conference double dual meet held Oct. 3 at Newberg High School.
The Sherwood girls defeated Newberg 24-33 and they also posted a 15-50 win over Forest Grove to improve to 4-0 in conference dual meets.
Junior Madi Ramos helped lead the way for the Lady Bowmen in the victory. She was the individual winner of the varsity girls race with a time of 20 minutes, 43.27 seconds for the 5,000-meter course.
Sherwood sophomore Kari Eddington finished in third place in a time of 21:01.70. Sherwood senior Emily Pannell was close behind in fourth place at 21:05.80.
Also for the Lady Bowmen, sophomore Brooke Smith was seventh at 21:20.35, senior Danielle Clem was ninth at 21:38.32, senior Emily Boynton was 10th at 21:49.03 and sophomore Maia Oliver was 11th at 21:50.73.
The Sherwood boys defeated Newberg 15-43 and they also bested Forest Grove 20-41 to improve to 4-0 in conference dual meets.
Senior Henry Giles led the way for a pack of Sherwood runners, placing second in a time of 16:38.85. Giles was followed by four of his Bowmen teammates. Sherwood junior Jaron Homer was third at 16:50.83, junior Thomas Osborne was fourth at 16:55.54, sophomore Ismael Alvares was fifth at 17:04.07 and freshman Jeffery Rogers was sixth at 17:08.91.
Also for Sherwood, freshman James Crabtree finished in ninth place with a mark of 17:34.96 and junior George Westover was 15th at 18:10.45.
Forest Grove junior Quincy Norman won the varsity boys race in a time of 16:24.23.
On Saturday, the Sherwood boys finished in first place in the team standings at the Bowmen Raceway Invitational, held at Portland International Raceway. The Bowmen won the eight-school event with a score of 36 points. Marist was second with a score of 47.
Giles paced the Bowmen at the invitational, taking second place in a time of 15:07.0 for the 4,970-meter course.
Homer was close behind in fourth place at 15:27.3 and Osborne was fifth at 15:35.3. Also for the Bowmen, Alvares was 10th at 15:59.6, Crabtree was 15th at 16:15.2, freshman Ethan Sturdivant was 16th at 16:18.3 and Rogers was 25th at 16:40.2.
Tualatin junior Andrew Payton won the varsity boys race in a time of 14:57.3.
The Sherwood girls finished in third place in the team standings with 66 points. Tualatin was first with a score of 33 and Marist was second at 51.
Eddington led the way for the Lady Bowmen at the invitational, running to 10th place in a time of 18:53.3. Ramos was right behind her in 11th place at 19:06.3.
Also for Sherwood, Smith was 18th at 19:40.3, Clem was 21st at 19:50.9, sophomore Mckenzie Abiley was 22nd at 19:51.9, Oliver was 25th at 20:06.4 and senior Jacqueline Angelel was 26th at 20:17.9.
The Sherwood teams will finish their conference dual meet schedule on Wednesday, when they host Liberty and McMinnville in a double dual meet to be held at Sherwood High School. The varsity boys race will start at 5:15 p.m., with the varsity girls to follow at 5:45 p.m.
